Huge Amounts Of Trash Wash Ashore!

Humans generate incredible amounts of trash,
and due in great part to a lack of caring,
a substantial amount of that trash ends up on beaches.

With each trip to the beach, if every sea-beaner picked up one bag of trash,
and then someone else on the beach saw this and also picked up a bag of trash,
and then someone else saw that person do it...
...Hmmmmm

Don't miss the annual: International Coastal Cleanup
For Southeast Florida, visit: Coastal Cleanup Corporation

Some numbers:
  • In one day, the annual coastal cleanup managed by the Ocean Conservancy collected
  • nearly 3.7 million pieces of debris from the USA's beaches...    ONE DAY!
  • Pacific Whale Foundation supports beach cleanups. Visit their site and then search for: trash.
  • People dump more than 650,000 plastic bottles into the oceans EACH DAY.
  • ocean sources dumped over 18 billion pounds of garbage into the sea every year--more than
  • 1.5 million pounds EVERY hour!

Every year, endangered marine animals, such as sea turtles and whales,
become entangled in oceanic debris or die from ingesting plastics and other inappropriate items.

    The Sea-bean/Trash connection:
Trash and sea-beans float and wash ashore. If all sea-beaners simply picked up a single bag of trash while looking for sea-beans, not only would the beach be a better place, but you'd also find more sea-beans! Bending over is good exercise and causes you to look closer at the beach when picking up trash. This process causes me (and probably you too!) to notice sea-beans that would otherwise be overlooked.
